The Power of Pictures (STEAM Project-Based Learning)

This STEAM unit is about how pictures and signs have meaning and can be helpful to people, especially people who are in an environment where they do not speak the language. This unit includes a realistic fiction story, “New School, New Language,” a nonfiction article, “Talking Without Words,” and a “Signs That Help” technology connection, as well as art and math connection activities and a career spotlight activity. The STEAM Task for this unit is for students to make a picture book for a friend who does not speak the same language.
