Let Other People Show What They Can Do (Culturally Responsive Lessons & Activities)
This unit is about Izaak and Deshawn, two boys who have to work on a class project together. At first, Deshawn underestimates Izaak’s ability to do the project because Izaak uses a wheelchair. Deshawn learns to let other people define themselves and show what they can do. This unit includes a realistic fiction story, discussion prompts, a partner activity, and a project menu titled “Respect Others” with 4 choices of projects that are either creative writing and drawing, hands-on, or collaborative and performance-based.
